In steel industries HMS stands for heavy melting scrap, where HMS 1 and HMS 2 are the two grades. Both HMS 1 & 2 comprise obsolete scrap only where the impurity is very less. The iron and the steel is recovered from different types of items which is demolished or dismantled at the end of their life cycle or in between due to replacement.
